A man who police thought had barricaded himself in a Gwinnett apartment turned himself in Thursday; police rescue baby, says report.
NORCROSS, GA — A Norcross-area man turned himself in to the Gwinnett County police Thursday afternoon following a SWAT standoff at his apartment, according to media reports. Jamal Alexander, 26, was charged with aggravated assault and simple battery, and is being being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The charges stem from a domestic violence incident Thursday morning at an apartment on Preston Lake Drive just outside of Norcross, according to a police report. Alexander shared the apartment with an unidentified woman and their infant son.
The woman called police at about 7 a.m. after she was forced to run from the apartment following a physical battle with Alexander, leaving their son inside, the AJC reported. She told police that Alexander tried to choke her with a pillow and pulled a gun on her.
