NORCROSS, GA — A fire Tuesday morning nearly destroyed a Norcross apartment building, but there were no injuries reported, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. The blaze displaced the tenants of seven apartment units.

Firefighters responded at 7:49 a.m. Tuesday to the report of a fire at the Ashford Jackson Creek Apartments, in the 3200 block of Sunrise Village Lane NW on the outskirts of Norcross.

The crews arrived to find flames and smoke rising about 20 to 30 feet into the air above the roof of the apartment building. The firefighters doused the blaze after laying about 500 feet of large-diameter hose to the nearest hydrant, the fire department said on its Twitter account.

Two residents in the building were home in separate units, and firefighters took them to the parking lot.

The blaze heavily damaged four apartments on the second floor, and the four first-floor units sustained smoke, heat and water damage, the fire department said.

Seven of the units were occupied, and the managers of the apartment complex are moving those tenants to other units. The Red Cross is providing them with clothing and other items, the fire department said.
