Fatal Hit And Run Suspect Arrested In Norcross

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with one count of hit and run and one count of homicide by vehicle following an accident July 20. Brittany Amber Ashley, of Stone Mountain, was arrested Tuesday and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. The vehicle involved in the crash was recovered at 745 Beaver Ruin Road, the Gwinnett Police Department (GCPD) said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

On Saturday, shortly before midnight, officers from the West Precinct responded to a call in reference to a man lying in the road around the 1300 block of Beaver Ruin Road in Norcross, GCPD said.

The caller said it appeared the man had been struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived they located a man, identified as 38-year-old Kevin Brown of Norcross, unresponsive in the roadway, GCPD said. Brown was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Investigators determined that Brown was struck by a vehicle while he appeared to be crossing the roadway. The vehicle that struck him fled the scene prior to police arrival and the driver never contacted 9-1-1 to report the collision.
