What It Takes To Be Successful In Real Estate
"There will always be phone calls on the weekend and evenings and offers to negotiate. That is the commitment you make."
By Nancy Minor
It's is 10:00 p.m. and I just finished my last real estate phone call for the day.Â
Some days the phone starts ringing at 7:00 in the morning and does not stop until late at night. When the phone stops ringing there may be several other things that still demand a real estate agent's time such as preparing an offer on a home or doing a market analysis before talking with a potential  seller. The agent may need to search for homes to show buyers who are relocating from out of town.Â

So what is there to love about this job?
Your first thought might be you love to see houses, that is true, you see a lot of homes when you are a Realtor but that is not a reason to choose a career in real estate. Your reason for deciding on a real estate as a career should be because you enjoy working with people and you love helping them achieve their real estate goals.

Another reason people choose real estate is because they want flexible hours. That is a nice idea, but when you have buyers and sellers, they are all your bosses and your hours will have to accommodate them for the most part. I have a very understanding family and modern technology has freed up so much time.
There will always be phone calls on the weekend and evenings and offers to negotiate. That is the commitment you make to do the job required as a Realtor. The good news is you can make sure you are at your son’s soccer game or your daughter’s dance recital. Â
You can also have time off when others are working, which allows you to be at your child’s school or meet your husband or wife for lunch. There will always be trade-offs and if you are blessed to work in a profession that you love then you must make sure you have balance in your life.
Real estate is a career where you are compensated by how hard you are willing to work. If you are determined to succeed you can achieve your goals while helping other people achieve theirs. There is no model real estate agent. They come in all shapes, sizes, ages and gender.
Education is critical and it is the only way to grow in this business. The State of Georgia Real Estate Commission requires continuing education. You must complete 25 hours of approved class work every four years.
That is good, but not enough to grow in this business. You should attend every class that you are able to during your first few years and even though I have been in the business 27 years, I know that it is necessary for me to take advantage of every opportunity to grow in this business.
If your heart is set on achieving the highest level, you can do this without anyone holding you back. Â If you are interested in helping families during happy and sad times, solve problems and help them buy or sell their homes, you will be their agent of choice for years to come. If you love technology and making it work for you, then you will be able to take advantage of all the great tools available for agents.
I am blessed to find this career, it’s a perfect match for me. It has allowed me so many chances to give back to my family and my community. The hours are long and many times stressful beyond belief, however the rewards are greater than all the hardship.
If you have ever wanted to be a Realtor then give me a call. I am more than happy to meet with you and share the good but also the challenges and help you in your decision making process. If you would like to see what I have listed lately visit ILoveNorcross.com
