CrossFit Box Opens at Athletic Club Northeast

By now, a lot of people have heard of CrossFit and some of them even know what it is. Whatever the level of experience with this amazing workout program that gives a new meaning to fitness, the opening of a CrossFit “box” within a high-end Atlanta athletic club, might just take CrossFit to a new level.

“We are in a unique position because we are located within Athletic Club Northeast,” says CrossFit affiliate director Dallas Walker Keith. “Not only can we offer the CrossFit workouts, personal training and community, but we also provide access to everything the club offers outside of our box.”

Typically, CrossFit gyms are set up in warehouses or garages, which is usually fine because the workouts make use of very targeted exercises that do not require complex equipment. However, this means that the gyms also do not offer certain amenities like towel service, razors, full service locker rooms, and showers.

While a shower after a tough workout is great, perhaps even more exciting as far as the CrossFit – partnership, is the fact that CrossFitters will be able to participate in a variety of sports and activities through the club that are a vital part of the overall CrossFit philosophy.

“CrossFit is intended to get you prepared for anything you might need to do in life,” says Walker. “The idea is that everyone from an Olympic athlete to an elderly person or a child needs to make the same functional movements.” And CrossFit encourages practice in sport. So, CrossFitters at the Athletic Club Northeast box will be able to participate in daily CrossFit workouts, but also activities like tennis, swimming, and yoga.

Even better, the location will allow the addition of certain CrossFit workouts not always possible in warehouses boxes. For example, the Athletic Club Northeast CrossFit trainers will be adding amphibious workouts and events known within the CrossFit community as “Frogman,” which combines swimming with CrossFit exercises.  The next “Frogman” event is May 25 at 8pm.

Finally, for CrossFitters who are family types, the Athletic Club Northeast box has the benefit of the Blast kids program. Arranging childcare around CrossFit WODs (workout of the day) might be tough, but with onsite childcare and activities for children, Athletic Club Northeast CrossFitter parents will never have to worry about this.

Anyone of any fitness level can start the CrossFit training, but where CrossFitters end up is with a new definition of athleticism.

“I’m 47, and I’m in the best shape of my life,” says Walker who had been a trainer and triathlete for many years before starting the CrossFit training program two years ago. “It’s the most effective programming I’ve ever found, and it will enhance anyone’s athletic performance.”
