In an ongoing effort to enhance the quality of life for DeKalb County youth, the DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department will host the Summer Food Service Program from May 31 - July 29.
Funding for the Summer Food Service Program is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which ensures children up to age 18 have access to nutritious meals during the summer. The main goal is to ensure children are getting nutritious meals even though school is out.
Agencies with summer camps that are interested in becoming a site for this program should contact Rose Myrick at 678-698-1114. To qualify as a site, 50 percent of the children served must meet the income guidelines for free and reduced price meals in the National School
Lunch Program. Children who are members of households that receive food stamps or Aid for Dependent Children assistance automatically qualify.
The deadline to apply for the Summer Food Program is Friday, March 18; applications for the program can be picked up at Tucker Recreation Center, 4898 LaVista Road in Tucker, Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm or online at www.dekalbcountyga.gov/parks. Completed
applications can be returned or mailed to the following location:
