Police Department Looking for Citizen Academy Students

The DeKalb County Police Department is seeking applicants to fill its June 2011 Citizens Academy. The academy is a free 10-week course that allows the community to learn about law enforcement from the inside. During the sessions, personnel from various police units, including patrol officers, detectives and crime prevention, will teach participants about the complexities and operational structure of their units. Ultimately, this new found insight will assist in building and nurturing stronger relationships between the community and the county police force.

Participant requirements:

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Live or work in DeKalb County
  • No prior felony convictions
  • Must consent to background check

The deadline to submit applications is May 1. Applications are available at each police precinct or may be requested by emailing Officer Jefferson at gkJeffer@dekalbcountyga.gov. Please return applications to the DeKalb County Police Training Unit, 2484 Bruce Street, Lithonia GA 30058.
