St. Pius French Students Take National, State Honors

is pleased to announce the students honored by the American Association of Teachers of French for their aptitude on the 2011 National French Contest. Forty students were recognized as either national or state winners in the annual Le Grand Concours competition.

St. Pius had 17 students receiving national honors including seniors Diana Destin and Kaitlin Walsh; juniors Marirose Allen and Catherine Korizno; sophomores Lindsay Cameron, Alejandro Espinosa, Grayson Klinger, Annette McDermott, Grace Mendzef, Keefe Osment and Anees-Carl Ragy; freshmen Joshua Beck, Stephanie Benzur, Molly Dowell, Della Pennachi, Leah Rosenberg and Jack Walsh.

In addition to the national winners, St. Pius had 23 state honorees.  Seniors Andrew Korizno and Gabrielle Hobbs, as well as freshmen Martinique Edwards, Katelyn Hambrick, David McNabb and Cecilia Probst were recognized. The state honorees also included the national winners.

According to their website, the American Association of Teachers of French sponsors the National French Contest, or Le Grand Concours.  The competition is held yearly nationwide and abroad for students of French in grades 1 - 12. Students take a written test and compete against students with equal educational backgrounds.
