County to Hold Mason Mill Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Sunday

The festivities will mark the end to the park's first phase of renovations, including a new playground and parking.

DeKalb County's Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Sunday, marking the end of the popular park's first phase of renovations that began in June.

The ceremony will begin in the park, 1400 McConnell Dr., at 1pm, according to a county statement. The public is invited to join county officials and staff and learn more about the renovations.  

That work represents only the first phase of the park's makeover, which will also include in the construction of a new dog park this spring. Projects completed in the first phase include landscaping and stormwater runoff improvements and rentention pond adjustments to compensate for the new parking and playground. Crews also paved a new entrance that runs alongside and behind .

That work and the playground bundled together represent $2.1 million of a total $7 million the county has invested in refurbishing the park. The improvements were mostly paid for with 2006 county parks bonds and left over bond monies.
