Prank Call Causes Another Lockdown at Lakeside High

School officials believe a student trying to sound like an adult called the school from an untraceable phone and threatened violence earlier today.

It seems there was another lockdown at earlier today. And, again, it was a false alarm.

Here's an e-mail Principal Joe Reed sent out to parents at about 5pm:

Today during 6th period and part of 7th period we had an intruder alert. It was caused by an anonymous 911 call from an untraceable phone threatening to come to the school and cause violence if anyone tried to stop him. The police officer who took the call described the caller as a student trying to simulate a man's voice.

Because the threat was determined to be from the outside, the DeKalb Police shut down the perimeter of the property. We decided to change classes while they were still here and then resume the Intruder Alert so that a bomb dog could patrol the campus. Nothing suspicious was found. Two DeKalb School Resource Officers stayed through dismissal. All afternoon activities were allowed to go on as scheduled.

During the drill it became apparent that one of our students had a school walkie-talkie. Please stress to the students the seriousness of that offense. If a student is found to be disrupting our response in this type of situation, it is considered a federal offense.

I truly appreciate the cooperation of our faculty, staff, students and the parents who were on campus.

The school was after a parent called, worried that his son brought a weapon to school. The student didn't have a weapon, however.
