The Week in Review

The top five stories from the previous week in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

  1. : This is a good example of an unfortunate story that, fortunately, didn't get bigger. The school sent out a note shortly after event was resolved, which was great. I've reported on similar events at schools that never alerted parents when actual guns were discovered. Nonetheless, it was easily the most read story on North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch.
  2. St. Pius Girls Win Region on Last-Second Shot: With several basketball programs at and rebuilding this year, there hasn't been a ton of winning going on. But, last night, in dramatic fashion, St. Pius' Lady Golden Lions took the regional championship against Columbia with a last-second three-pointer. North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch was there, and it's a good story from Alex Ewalt, one of our sports reporters.

  • : A lot of people have been waiting for new construction at Mason Mill Park to end so they can return to it and enjoy it. Fortunately, the front end of it should be finished soon. A new playground is ready and waiting, and there's a bunch of new parking. Construction on a dog park there is set to begin this spring, however.
  • Ask Not What Your School District Can Do for You...: George Miranda, a Patch user and local resident, ruffled some feathers this week with his letter to the editor regarding school redistricting in the Lakeside High community. Hundreds of people read the column and took issue with his position that parents should let the proposed redistricting move forward. It started a good debate and frank discussion – something I'd love to see more of on North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch. So, if you've got something on your mind about anything in our community, send me an e-mail/letter at jonathan.cribbs@patch.com.
  • Elitism Plays No Role in Lakeside Community Redistricting Debate: Tons of people also read Rebecca Wynn Amerson's response to Miranda's letter. She echoed the sentiments of many parents currently fighting against school attendance zone changes (and the proposed closure of ). Again, its becoming clearer to me that people really like to read local commentary here probably more than anything else. What do you guys think about that? Would you like to see more of it? Let me know: jonathan.cribbs@patch.com.
