Police: Man Deposits Stolen Check at PTC Bank, Withdraws the $9K

Gwinnett County Police said the incident happened in June at a bank located in Peachtree Corners.

Gwinnett County Police are looking for a man they believe deposited a stolen check at a Peachtree Corners bank earlier this summer, then withdrew the more than $9,000.

Public information officer Cpl. Michele Pihera said in a news release Wednesday morning that the suspect has been identified as Patrick Guentangue, who may have ties to Nigeria and/or Cameroon.

Police have not been able to find Guentangue at his local address, police said.

The alleged fraud happened around 1:30 p.m. on June 10 at a BB&T Bank branch at 5125 Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree Corners. The check, for more than $9,000, cleared the bank and the funds were withdrawn before the bank discovered the check to be stolen.

Guentangue was identified via surveillance images.

Police have obtained warrants for Guentangue’s arrest on charges of theft by receiving and forgery 3rd degree.
