Will New Pope Bring New Hope to Catholic Church?
Catholics around the world celebrate the selection, but will it help bring back the faithful?
Last week we watched as the College of Cardinals at the Vatican in Rome chose Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, of Argentina, as the Roman Catholic Church new pope.
According to his Vatican bio, Pope Francis was born Dec. 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires; he was ordained for the Jesuits Dec. 13, 1969. Bergolgio served as President of the Bishops' Conference of Argentina from November 2005 until November 2011.
By all media accounts, Pope Francis is expected to be a very different pope and he is already signifying a break from tradition. He is reported to have turned down much of the opulent lifestyle his status in the Catholic Church could have afforded him up until now and appears to be doing the same now that he has been appointed to the highest position in the Church.Â

CNN reports on the symbolism of Pope Francis choosing to name himself after St. Francis of Assisi, the saint who chose a life most like that of Christ. By most media accounts, Pope Francis has chosen a similar path in his own life.
Scandals have plagued the Catholic Church in more recent times, casing many to lose faith.
