Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:
- Hotels, including prominent players like Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), are making efforts to address their role in human trafficking. IHG trained over 50,000 employees to identify the signs of trafficking and suggests inclusive hiring practices, employee training opportunities, and engaging survivors in conversations about their needs. Other companies, such as UPS, have also implemented policies to address the issue and engage employees in prevention efforts, and have fundraised for anti-trafficking nonprofits. - The Sandy Springs police department is closely monitoring a problematic intersection at Glendridge Drive, north of I-285 due to illegal U-turns and other traffic violations by drivers. Over two days, about 100 tickets were issued for traffic offenses. Police will continue to monitor the intersection and enforce traffic rules while urging drivers to be aware of the posted signs. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- More than 100 pre-K through fifth-grade students at Martin Luther King Elementary School in Atlanta received free eye exams and prescription glasses on National Read Across America Day, thanks to a partnership between the Atlanta Hawks Foundation, Georgia's Own Credit Union, and nonprofit Vision To Learn. The initiative is part of a larger effort to provide 5,000 students across metro Atlanta with eyeglasses during the Hawks' current season. The event featured Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins, the Atlanta Hawks dancers, and Harry the Hawk. (11Alive.com WXIA)
