Here are the top three stories in and around Sandy Springs today:
- An Atlanta woman has been charged for allegedly defrauding her insurance provider by filing 20 false claims. According to an announcement by Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King on Tuesday, 42-year-old Kesha Petty submitted 20 fraudulent prescription claims to Aetna Insurance, which allowed her to be reimbursed by her employer. Petty received over $228,000 in total from the fraudulent claims. A warrant has been filed again Petty in Gwinnett County; she has not been arrested. (WSB Atlanta)
- In nearby Marietta, all crossings near Marietta Square were closed on Tuesday due to a train stuck on the tracks. Drivers were encouraged to look for alternate routes, as the train was blocking Whitlock Avenue and surrounding streets. As of the time of this writing, all railroad crossings are closed until further notice. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- A wind advisory has been issued beginning at midnight tonight (Jan. 25) and will last until midnight tomorrow (Jan. 26). In addition, showers and thunderstorms are expected today throughout the morning and afternoon. During the storms today, the area can expect to see strong wind gusts up to 40 MPH which could down trees. (Sandy Springs, Georgia: City News)
