Here are the top stories today in Sandy Springs:

  1. Atlanta BeltLine Inc. (ABI) and PATH Foundation held a joint meeting to announce the results from the Atlanta BeltLine Northwest Trail Feasibility Study. The Northwest Trail was expected to be among the most complicated sections of the BeltLine trail, and the developers opted to ask for community input. The results of the study and a recording of the meeting are available to the public. (What Now Atlanta)
  2. Mayor Andre Dickens announced on Friday that Atlanta will bid for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Atlanta has hosted only one previous party convention, in 1988, when Democrats met to nominate then Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis for president. Representatives from the Democratic Party are deciding between eight potential cities. (WRDW)
  3. The Fulton County Sheriff's Office is searching for a medical assistant who allegedly tried to smuggle large amounts of drugs and cigarettes into Fulton County Jail on Saturday. The jail is a tobacco-free establishment, and cigarettes are considered contraband. After the suspect panicked and fled the scene, deputies discovered 192 grams of marijuana, 20 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and 200 cigarettes.

Are you a Sandy Springs resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
