Corp of Engineers Approves Temporary Solution for Sandy Springs Dam

The Corp of Engineers has approved the temporary spillway at the complex dam, said Jeff Tabor, of Titan Real Estate, which owns the Falls of Sandy Springs.

The dam broke during a storm, nearly two weeks ago, and caused the temporary evacuation of 100 residents. Work crews pumped five million gallons of water from dam and retention pond. Titan, working with geotechnical and hydraulic engineers has installed a 36-inch pipe to secure the temporary flow control at a reduced surface elevation, and an emergency spillway to protect the slope on the backside of the dam.

In a statement, Tabor said a topographical survey of the site and geotechnical borings has been completed, and Titan is now working with the engineers to design a permanent solution. The current schedule is for the design to be completed in the next two weeks and then those plans will be submitted to the city, GDOT, and Corp of Engineers to be approved. Upon approval Titan will proceed to bidding, selection of a contractor and the final remediation.
