Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:

  1. The Fulton County Sheriff is asking for help from the Atlanta City Council in curbing violence at the county jail. The Sheriff detailed dangerous jail conditions that include homemade weapons and inmates sleeping in plastic doggie trays. The Sherriff is asking for the city council and the county to come to an agreement that would open the city jail for county jail overflow. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Linda Bain was awarded the Greenspace Champion Award by the Sandy Springs Conservancy during its annual Though Leaders Dinner on Sep. 28. Bain was a founding member of the Sandy Springs Conservancy Board. She also pitched the idea of a "Great Park" on the Chattahoochee River. She became the face of the Sandy Springs Conservancy.   3. Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul will be presenting the State of the City address on Oct. 18 to the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber. The address is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at City Hall in the 3rd Floor Terrace Conference Room.
