Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:

  1. Amid rising costs, five cities in northern Fulton County are working toward partnering to host local elections in their own jurisdictions instead of paying the county to do so. The Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections appears supportive of the municipalities' decision to explore other options: a Wednesday statement from the department read in part, "We recognize that cities may choose to perform elections on their own for any number of reasons." The five cities in talks to partner for local elections are Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park, and Roswell; Sandy Springs does not have a local election this year. 2. A Fulton County program aims to curb rising rates of youth violence across the Atlanta metro by offering mentorship to teen boys of color. The "My Brother's Keeper Big Brothers Anonymous Mentorship Series" takes place at the Legacy Center in East Point, with meetings held on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The overarching goal of "Big Brothers Anonymous" is to help young men learn essential life skills and develop positive relationships with males in the community. 3. Sandy Springs Education Force's 13th Annual STEAM Showcase will be featured at the Atlanta Science Festival. The festival, taking place from Friday, Mar. 10 through Saturday, Mar. 25, boasts 150 educational and interactive events for science lovers of all ages. The STEAM Showcase will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at North Springs High School. (Sandy Springs Education Force via Facebook)
