Here are the top stories today in Sandy Springs:
- A private school in Sandy Springs that had been operating without proper zoning approval has been given a conditional permit. The permit was approved for the Chaya Mushka Children’s House at 5180 Roswell Road at the June 21 meeting in City Hall. Neighbors fear that without proper regulation, the school's development could triple in size and continue to encroach upon the neighborhood. (Reporter Newspapers)
- A Sandy Springs couple started a college scholarship fund for underprivileged students. David and Melanie Couchman launched the "Next Steps to Success" scholarship to held aid students through their college programs. The Couchmans have long been supporters of local nonprofits. (Paywall: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- A local businessman and food purveyor shed some light on his latest venture. Sandy Springs resident Kirk Halpern launched Farmers & Fishermen Purveyors in 2019 and has been delivering fresh protein from around the world since. The business began by selling directly to restaurants, but when the pandemic hit, Halpern quickly shifted gears and started delivering directly to peoples' homes. (Reporter Newspapers)

Are you a Sandy Springs resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
