MARTA Implements Security Measures in Response to Boston Explosions
MARTA says there is no credible threat to transit systems. However, they are asking riders including Sandy Springs travelers to be on high alert.

MARTA has heightened security as a result of the Boston Explosions.
A media statement said the MARTA Police department is working directly with federal, state and local agencies, including the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority and the Transit Security Administration in Washington, D. C. to stay updated on any recommendations related to public transit.

According to the statement MARTA has taken the following measures:
- Deployed K-9 units to make additional patrols
- Placed all specialized units on standby for activation
- Increased police presence
- Placed all MARTA staff on heighten alert for any suspicious activity
- Encouraged the public to ‘See Something, Say Something’ and immediately report any suspicious activity or unattended packages to a MARTA Police officer or employee or call MPD at 404-848-4911
- Maintaining communication with local emergency management offices
- Maintaining communication with FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force
- Prepared MARTA Homeland Security protocols and procedures for activation if necessary
