- The Sandy Springs City Council plans to upgrade the Recycling Center at Morgan Falls and pilot a mobile recycling program through a Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grant. The program aims to provide recycling services to multi-family housing and will be managed by two part-time employees who will handle collection routes and educate residents. If successful, the program will become permanent and self-funded through at-cost fees to complex owners. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- A new lawsuit claims that Fulton County Schools didn't do enough to stop a teenage girl from being sexually assaulted and raped by her teacher, Robert Vandel. Vandel had a record of seven students and 14 teachers filing reports of grooming, sexual harassment, and sexual assault against him before he was hired at Fulton Academy of Science and Technology in Roswell. The lawsuit, which named Fulton County Schools Superintendent Mike Looney, alleges that the school system failed to protect the victim from being attacked by hiring Vandel despite his history of allegations at other institutions. - Village Medical, a primary care provider, has opened its first facility in nearby Johns Creek located inside the Walgreens on Kimball Bridge Road. The organization aims to close gaps in primary care access and advance health equity by partnering with Walgreens and private physicians to provide medical services to residents who have a reduced access to proper health care. Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA) attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, citing the importance of proper access to primary and preventive care for Georgians to live long, healthy lives. (The Atlanta Voice)
