Narrow River Valley Road Sidewalks to be Fixed

There are plans to widened the sidewalk in the next couple of weeks, according to the City of Sandy Springs. Spokesperson Sharon Kraun said city officials have hear residents' complaints.

In addition to complaints a about a traffic signal at River Valley and Johnson Ferry Roads, Amberidge community residents have expressed worries about children bicycling along a new narrow sidewalk along the left side of River Valley Road.

“We have heard that residents think it’s unsafe,” said Sharon Kraun, spokesperson for the City of Sandy Springs. The sidewalk will be widened in the next couple of weeks to about five-feet-wide, standard size, Kraun said.

Nearly two weeks ago, City Councilman Chip Collins told Patch a federal grant provided money for the sidewalks and required they be constructed on both sides of River Valley Road.

The right side coming from Johnson Ferry Road appears adequate width.  The left side is very narrow in parts, particularly at residential driveways. Kraun said that was to avoid encroaching on private property and to protect trees.
