Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:
- The Sandy Springs City Council has approved a construction contract for a new fire station. The contract is worth $8.02 million and was awarded to Copper and Company. The new fire station will be constructed at 7800 Mount Vernon Road. There will be a two-bay apparatus storage room, decontamination showers, gear wash areas, and gear storage space at the 10,912-square-foot facility. (Sandy Springs)
- A new mixed-use development on Roswell Road will likely exacerbate the imbalance of rental units to owner-occupied housing in Sandy Springs, according to Mayor Rusty Paul. The development will be built by Shelton McNally Real Estate Partners. There are 199 apartment units planned with 7,350 square feet of retail space. The Sandy Springs City Council approved the project's rezoning during its meeting on Tuesday. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The Sandy Springs City Council has approved a new trail construction contract to JHC Corporation. The project will construct a new segment of trail to the Chattahoochee River as a part of the city's Trail Master Plan. The contract is for a 1.88-mile segment and will cost about $7.8 million.
