Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:
- The City of Sandy Springs has placed new signs around the city. The signs read "Protected By SSPD.” The city and the Sandy Springs Police Department hope that the signs reassure the community and visitors that the department will "always be there." The new signs can be seen when entering the city. (Sandy Springs Police Department)
- The Fulton County Medical Examiner has released the identity of the individual found dead at the Fulton County Jail. Shamar Mcleroy, 20, was found with both his ankles and wrists bound. The Atlanta Police Department is investigating the death as a possible homicide. He had been in custody since February, according to his grandmother. (11 Alive)
- The Georgia Department of Transportation reports that the I-285 construction project will likely last at least eight months. Fulton County travelers will likely experience additional traffic on I-285 during the project as lanes are closed. The closures will reportedly allow construction crews to build bridges across Georgia 400, Peachtree Dunwoody Road, and Glenridge Drive. Travelers are encouraged to use alternate routes throughout the area. (WSBTV)
