North Springs Honors National Merit Semifinalists
Nathan Buffington, Kevin Hopper, and Daniel Kane were informed of their semifinalist achievement with a surprise lunch.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA – North Springs Charter High School announced their National Merit Semifinalists last week by surprising the honorees - Nathan Buffington, Kevin Hopper and Daniel Kane.
Shortly before noon the boys received passes to report to the front office. There, Principal Scott Hanson met them and asked them to come into the conference room where they were surprised to find not only their parents, but lunch!

“Recognition as a National Merit Semifinalist is a big honor and we’re proud of your academic success and happy to celebrate with you,” said Hanson. “We wanted to do something special to honor your accomplishments.”
Of the 1.6 million students who annually take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) during the fall of their junior year - approximately 16,000 students from across the county are later named National Merit Semifinalists, representing the highest scorers in each state.

Buffington, Hopper and Kane must now fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist round: earn an SAT score that confirms their PSAT qualifying test performance, complete a detailed application, write an essay and provide information about leadership, school and community activities. In February 2017, they will learn if they are National Merit Finalists and recipients of more than 7,500 scholarship awards.
North Springs Charter High School, located at 7447 Roswell Rd. is home to the state’s only dual magnet programs in arts and sciences.
