Here are the top four stories in and around Sandy Springs today:
- The Sandy Springs Fire Department is conducting routine testing of fire hydrants throughout the city. The department has warned that tests may cause temporary changes in household water pressure or discoloration of the water. Residents are advised to run all household cold water faucets for several minutes to clear household pipes if discoloration occurs. (Sandy Springs, Georgia: City News via Facebook)
- A man has been charged with impersonating a police officer in Norcross (about 12 miles from Sandy Springs) after an officer became suspicious and found he did not have the correct patches indicating the municipality or police department. Body camera footage showed Darryl Henderson claiming he worked for the City of Talbotton, but police found out he had been fired from another department earlier in the month. He was released on a $5,600 bond and is accused of impersonating a public officer or employee. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Kohan Retail Investment Group, a New York-based company known for its collection of distressed shopping malls, has purchased the majority of the Town Center at Cobb mall in Kennesaw (about 30 minutes away from Sandy Springs) for 71 million dollars. The acquisition comes after the property fell into foreclosure and lead lender Deutsche Bank claimed the mall from Simon Property Group in 2021. Kohan Retail Investment Group is the owner of more than 50 shopping malls across the U.S. and has faced criticism for allowing some of its properties to deteriorate. (The Business Journals)
- All 10 judges in Fulton County Magistrate Court signed a letter stating they have "lost confidence" in the current clerk, Tina Robinson, citing issues such as inconsistent in-person support and notices not being mailed on time. The feud between the county clerk and chief magistrate has been ongoing for six to seven months, with Chairman Robb Pitts stating that the situation has become embarrassing and hurts taxpayers the most. Pitts has proposed legislation to consolidate all three courts with one clerk, which will be on tonight's commission agenda. (FOX 5 Atlanta)

- Georgia bankers and officials have claimed that Georgia banks are in good financial shape, despite the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. The chairman of the House Banks and Banking Committee, Noel Williams, stated that safeguards are in place, and Georgia banks have low levels of problem loans, high levels of capital, and strong liquidity to meet any customer demands. It was also noted that The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation insures all deposits up to $250,000, and no depositor has ever lost money since its creation in 1933, making bank deposits in Georgia safe.
