Sandy Springs City Council approved an increase in the cost of Fulton County Animal Control services.
The city will pay the new annual cost of $87,091 up from $69,000. The increased cost of $23,000 is due to capital improvement costs to Fulton County Animal Control facility and fleet, said John McDonough, city manager.
In fiscal year 2013, Fulton County responded to 712 calls in Sandy Springs.

During the June 18 City Council meeting members said they will consider another option next year, likely the Atlanta Humane Society.
“Even though it might cost more money…I think we’d get better care for our animals,” said Karen Meinzen McEnerny. “We’d get a higher adoption rate and we’d be closer geographically to our constituents.”

Fulton County Animal Control responded to 27,200 calls for service from 15 cities over the last year, according to the city manager. Increased costs will bring the county $3,327,330.
Here’s what some other cities would pay.
- Roswell had 826 calls for service and would pay $101,035.75.
- Alpharetta had 560 calls for service and would pay 68,498.82.
- Johns Creek had 414 calls for service and would pay $50,640.20
- Milton had 280 calls for service and would pay $34,349.41
- East Point had 2,109 calls for service and would pay $257,971.43
- City of Atlanta had 15,956 calls for service and would pay $1,951,726.99
