- Sandy Spring firefighters practiced their high-rise rescue skills on the roof of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital on Feb. 14. The firefighters brightened the patients' day by waving and interacting with them while rappelling down the side of the building. Sandy Springs Communications Director Andrew Allison said, "The event was designed as a community outreach effort centered around the kids at the children’s hospital,” Allison said. “The whole reason behind the event was to cheer up the kids, with the additional benefit of offering a training opportunity." - Some Georgia lawmakers call school zone cameras a "speed trap." State Rep. J. Collins, R-Villa Rica, filed a bill to decrease the window that camera-enforced school zones can operate and require signs identifying the zones, including flashing yellow lights. State Rep. Jason Ridley, R-Chatsworth, filed a second bill that would decrease the fines for those caught by speed enforcement cameras from $75 to $10. The Georgia Department of Transportation has approved permits for more than a hundred school zone cameras across North Georgia since 2019, with 24 cameras in Fulton County. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
