Sandy Springs, Gwinnett Agree To Widen Spalding Drive

The total estimated project cost is $10.5 million, and Sandy Springs' contribution will be around $1.2 million.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Sandy Springs leaders have approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County to bring road improvements along Spalding Drive. Council members approved implementing the IGA at its Oct. 2 meeting for the project connecting the city to Gwinnett.

Plans for the project call for widening Spalding Drive from River Exchange Drive to Winters Chapel Road and replacing an existing bridge.

Sandy Springs has included multi-use paths along Spalding Drive as part of its TSPLOST program. With the agreement with Sandy Springs, Gwinnett County will install a multi-use path on the south side of Spalding Drive and a sidewalk on the north side of the thoroughfare. The sidewalks will connect to the existing sidewalks on Holcomb Bridge Road, and will provide enhanced connectivity to Crooked Creek Park and surrounding neighborhoods.
