Sandy Springs Opens Public Outdoor Sculpture Competition

ArtSS in the Open will feature nine sculptures on display surrounding the City Green and City Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The city of Sandy Springs and Art Sandy Springs are announcing the first call for its ArtSS in the Open program, a public outdoor sculpture competition at City Springs.

The competition calls on local, regional, and national artists to make submissions for possible inclusion in an outdoor exhibit surrounding the City Green and City Springs. The theme for the inaugural competition is “Inspired. By nature.”

Nine sculptures will be prominently displayed around the City Green for the first exhibit. Sandy Springs will purchase one or more sculptures from each annual competition to add to its growing public art collection. Sculptures purchased will be placed in permanent public locations around the city.

“A desire to bring the arts closer to home inspired the formation of City Springs, and it has quickly developed into a creative commons where community theatre to nationally-known artists perform," said Mayor Rusty Paul. "It is exciting to bring the additional element of visual art to the stage with this rotating exhibition, also adding to a civic art collection throughout our city."

The public sculpture competition was created to bring art to the parks and public spaces throughout the city of Sandy Springs, as well as enhance the City Springs campus, which opened in August. City Springs is home to Sandy Springs City Hall, a Performing Arts Center featuring a 1,070-seat theatre, Studio Theatre, Conference Center, residential and retail components and a four-acre City Green.
