Sandy Springs Police Investigating String of Home Invasions

In each case residents were home and encountered the armed intruders.

From Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose

Sandy Springs Police are seeking the identities of the persons responsible home invasions that occurred in Sandy Springs this month.

On June 7, just before 11 pm, the teenage son of the homeowner, who was in the basement of the home located at 1285 Heards Ferry Road, was confronted by a man who he described as a black male with a black ski mask and white “garden gloves.”

The suspect wore what was described as a “grey jump suit” and had a black semi-automatic handgun with what was described as “chipped off paint” on it.

The victim was tied with zip ties while a second suspect and possibly a third, moved around the upstairs of the home.  The victim, who was not injured, said the suspects went through the house for a short time and then quickly left. Several minutes later, the victim’s brother and mother arrived home in separate cars. The victim’s brother said he saw a “sedan” pulling out of the circular driveway as he pulled in.

It is believed the suspects entered and then exited the home through an unlocked front door. The suspects left with a small amount of jewelry.

A second home invasion was reported on June 19 at 5127 Powers Ferry Road in south Sandy Springs. The homeowner reported that just after 10:30 pm, he was in the kitchen of his home when he was confronted by two men who had entered an open garage bay that led to the kitchen door. One suspect pulled a silver handgun and forced the victim to the master bedroom where they bound him with zip ties on his arms and ankles.

The suspects demanded that he tell them where his jewelry was because they knew he owned a jewelry store. [The victim at one time owned a jewelry store but was not in that business now.]

The victim estimated the suspects were in the home for about 10 minutes before leaving through the garage bay area. After several minutes, the victim was able to free himself and called the police. The suspects were described as black males, 5-foot-11 to six-feet-tall, skinny to muscular build, wearing all black clothing. Both suspects wore gloves and black ski masks that showed only their eyes. The victim reported that jewelry and a small amount of cash were taken.

In another case, Investigators are looking for two suspects in the June 13 burglary on Burdette Road in Sandy Springs. The suspects are described as white males. A teen at home at the time, told police one of the men resembled a painter and appeared to be six-feet-tall, with a slim to athletic build, a goatee and short brown hair.

The 19-year-old, at home with his younger sister, encountered an armed burglar in the doorway of his parents’ bedroom, shortly after he woke-up.

According to a Sandy Springs Police report, the suspect pointed a light colored, possibly silver, handgun at the teen and said, “Get back in your room.”  The teen backed into his room, locked the door and called 911.
