Here are the top stories in Sandy Springs today:
- The Sandy Springs Arts Foundation donated $50,000 to high schools and middle schools to help bolster public school arts programs. The funds will go towards pressing needs, as well as a mentoring program, "Art in Place," which launched in 2020 at the onset of the pandemic. Over 830 students participated in a contest launched by the program, which extended the outreach to more than double the number of students from the previous year. (MDJOnline.com)
- Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis received a number of extreme threats towards her and her family amid the high-profile racketeering indictment that involved local Atlanta rappers and gang members. Extra security measures have been put in place to protect the Willis family. She has received additional threats from apparent supporters of Donald Trump on account of a special grand jury to investigate the events surrounding the 2020 presidential election. (WSB Atlanta)
- Multiple lanes closed on GA-400 north after a rollover crash on Thursday afternoon. At approximately 1 p.m., the collision occurred, luckily leading to no injuries. It was unclear at the time exactly how many cars were involved in the wreck. (11 Alive)

Are you a Sandy Springs resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
