Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:

1. Fulton County Schools will be testing a new high-tech device in its school buses. The device will allow the buses to communicate with traffic signals to turn them green. The district hopes that the devices will improve bus schedules and address its school bus driver shortage. The devices will be tested on two Fulton County buses. (11 Alive)
2. Walmart will be laying off over a thousand employees at its Fulton County facility. The announcement was made to the Georgia Department of Labor. The layoffs will reportedly include 1,458 employees and will occur by Dec. 2. Walmart claims that the layoffs are part of the facility's conversion project. It is unclear how layoffs are necessary to convert the facility. (SupplyChainDive.com)
3. Sandy Springs' Spooky Springs event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22. The free event will be held at Abernathy Greenway Playable Art Park at 5:00 p.m. The park will be closed starting at 9:00 a.m. for event setup. There will be candy stations, face painting, fog machines, a live DJ, and various food truck options for participants. (City of Sandy Springs)
