During a public input meeting, last week, on moving Heards Ferry Elementary School, City Councilman Chip Collins called on the Fulton County Board of Education to include feedback from Sandy Springs officials in their decision-making process.
Collins said he was surprised to learn, from City Manager John McDonough, that city officials have not been contacted at all about rebuilding or relocating the elementary school. Collins said he would expect city leaders would be asked, “What do you as a city, who are running these roads and dealing with stormwater; what do you think?”

He added, “We are likely to pass a resolution at the City Council meeting, next Tuesday, officially inviting you to bring the city in.”
Patrick Burke, Deputy Superintendent of Operations for Fulton County Schools said Sandy Springs will not be involved until the school board makes a firm decision. He said. “We spend that money; if it’s on our property. That is our process. I’ve said that to [City Manager] John McDonough. I’ve said, ‘When I can talk to you, I will.’ We’re very close.”
