Patch has teamed up with T-Mobile to spotlight five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. While this list is just a snapshot, there are countless others who have helped shape the rich sports culture in our area.
1. Demarcus Dobbs (Football)
Demarcus Dobbs is a former defensive lineman who played for the San Francisco 49ers and other NFL teams during his career. As a standout defensive end at the University of Georgia, Dobbs was known for his versatility and strong work ethic. Born and raised in Savannah, Dobbs’ connection to his hometown runs deep, as he has continued to be involved in various community initiatives, giving back to the area that helped shape him.

2. Flau’Jae Johnson (Basketball)
Flau'jae Johnson is a rising star in women’s college basketball, currently playing for the LSU Tigers after transferring from the University of Georgia. Hailing from Savannah, Johnson has made a name for herself not only as a skilled athlete but also as a talented rapper. She earned national attention for her exceptional skills on the court, particularly her scoring ability and leadership, helping to propel LSU to top rankings. 5. Mervin Jackson (Basketball)
Mervin Jackson was a standout basketball player who gained local fame for his exceptional skills on the court at Beach High School in Savannah. Known for his athleticism and leadership, Jackson's talent led him to play college basketball at the University of Utah, and he later played in the NBA with the Los Angeles Stars. After retiring from basketball, Jackson returned to Savannah as a sports radio analyst.
