Nearly 80 Bats Found In GA Home Displaces Family: Reports

A woman told a media outlet that she and her husband were traumatized after learning of the bat infestation in their Georgia home.

SAVANNAH, GA — A family of four became displaced after a bat sighting in a bedroom led to the discovery of nearly 80 bats in the Savannah home, according to media reports.

Monica Grant told WFLA that she and her husband were traumatized after learning of the bat infestation in their West 51 Street home, where they live with their two small children.

Panama City News Herald reported Wednesday the children are ages 2 and 4 months.

Since the Georgia Department of Public Health said the home is unsafe, the family has been living with a neighbor, WFLA reported.

Through a GoFundMe, the Grant family nearly $12,000 to assist with medical bills and moving.

"We are asking for our friends, our community and any help. Our neighbor (my God bless her) has graciously let us stay in her house with her for the time being while we figure out our steps forward," Isaiah Grant wrote on the GoFundMe.

"But that still leaves us facing a massive headwind of getting our stuff out of the house, moving somewhere else (we can’t go back), paying for our medical bills (we have to go to the ER 3 more times for the shots as they are on a schedule) and finding some sense of normal through this."

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources offers guidelines for removing colonies of bats from homes.
