Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:
- The Savannah-Chatham County Public School Board has appointed Dr. Denise Watts to serve as the district's 25th superintendent. The board voted unanimously in favor of Watts, who will begin in her new role on Jul. 1. Watts worked most recently in the Houston Independent School District as the Chief of Schools, and before that, she was the Chief of District Support at the University of Virginia for its Partnership for Leaders in Education program. In 2008, Watts was the NASSP Middle Level Principal of the Year in North Carolina. (Savannah CEO)
- A Savannah rapper is facing multiple charges relating to drugs, gang affiliation, and illegal cell phone use. Tyquian Terrel Bowman, also known as Quando Rondo, is among 19 people being charged. Bowman is accused of using a cell phone to coordinate the sale of marijuana, and of being in a leadership role in the Rollin' 60s gang. According to an indictment from the Chatham County District Attorney's office, Bowman is accused of traveling to Macon earlier this month to pay for marijuana. (WJCL)
