Savannah Teen Shot While Campaigning For Warnock
The teen's injury was not life-threatening, and a suspect is in jail, police said.
SAVANNAH, GA — A 42-year-old man is facing charges after police say he shot a 15-year-old boy who was campaigning near his home for U.S. Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock ahead of the Dec. 6 runoff.
According to the Savannah Police Department Friday, Jimmy Paiz is charged on suspicion of aggravated assault and aggravated battery. He was taken to the Chatham County Jail, police said.
The shooting took place around 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Hartridge Street, police said. Paiz is accused of shooting through his closed front door, hitting the teen in his leg, police said.

The injury was not life-threatening, and the teen was taken to Memorial Medical Center, police said.
According to WSAV, Warnock released the following statement: “I am saddened to learn about this incident. I am praying for the victim and their family and wish them a full recovery.”

Warnock, a Democrat, faces challenger Herschel Walker, a Republican, in the U.S. Senate runoff.
Savannah Police said the shooting is still under investigation, and that there is no indication the shooting was politically motivated.
