UPDATE: Mother, 2 Children Treated for Non-Life Threatening Injuries

UPDATE 12:15 p.m. Smyrna police say the mother and her two children struck by a vehicle Monday morning on Concord Road are being treated at local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

WSB reported that the children are being treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Eggleston. Officer Mike Smith, Smyrna Police Department’s public information officer, said the children should be released tomorrow and that their mother was treated for a broken ankle at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Smith said the woman was crossing Concord Road at Hollis Street with her two children, one in a stroller, to reach a bus stop near . While they were already in the roadway one of the children darted ahead of her. The mother was chasing after the child when they were struck by a Hyundai SUV.

UPDATE 9:30 a.m. Concord Road at Hollis Street has been reopened to traffic. The extent of the pedestrians' injuries are still unknown at this time. Smyrna-Vinings Patch will have more updates as they are available. 

ORIGINAL POST: An adult and two infants were struck by a car while crossing Concord Road at Hollis Street Monday morning. Smyrna police say the pedestrians have been taken a hospital and the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. The driver was not injured in the accident.

Officer Michael Smith, Smyrna Police Department’s public information officer, said the pedestrians were crossing outside the crosswalk when they were struck by the driver of a red Hyundai SUV traveling eastbound on Concord Road. Smith said the driver stopped immediately and speed and alcohol don’t appear to be factors. Smith indicated that the bright sunlight may have contributed to the cause of the accident.

Smyrna-Vinings Patch observed a stroller and what appeared to be a pink jacket on the scene. Orange markings for the investigation are visible on the pavement.

Drivers are asked to avoid Concord Road at Hollis Street while police continue their investigation. Smyrna-Vinings Patch will have more updates as they are available.
