- Georgia found that Cobb County schools denied services to a student with disabilities. According to the complaint, the district forced the 5-year-old, who has Down syndrome, to choose between a "medically necessary" eight-week treatment program, or their education. The district must provide compensatory services and revise its policies or risk losing federal and state funds for special education. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Police confirmed a motorist was killed in Saturday's I-75 crash. The Terrell Mill Road accident, which had traffic jammed for miles, has resulted in at least one casualty. The victim's name has not been released but was driving a Nissan. They were struck by a Toyota Tacoma from behind and both vehicles were pushed to the left shoulder. Police did not offer information on the status of the other driver. (East Cobb News)
- A Cobb County judge ruled that the shutdown of the Smyrna Sterigenics plant violated Georgia law. The Sterigenics plant, which sterilizes medical equipment, was recently shut down by the county but a judge has ruled it was improperly done. While the ruling asserts the lawful procedure was breached, it does not comment on the validity of the shutdown reasoning. (MDJOnline.com)
