- Former Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Mike Register has been appointed as Cobb County's public safety director once again, approved by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday. Register, who previously held the position and has an extensive 30-year career in public safety, expressed his gratitude for serving as the GBI director and looks forward to leading the dedicated professionals in Cobb County's public safety department and reconnecting with the community he served before. Throughout his tenure, Register was commended for his commitment to community policing and establishing strong connections with residents of all backgrounds. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- A family in Smyrna has expressed gratitude for their safety after a powerful oak tree collapsed onto their historic Lee Street home. During a burst of high winds on Sunday, the tree crashed into the front room, which served as a home office and nursery. As of Monday, homeowner Kyle Rains and his family were salvaging their belongings before further inspecting the damage, while crews came by to cut away the massive branches. (WSBTV)
- The completion of metro Atlanta's largest highway construction project, the I-285 interchange at Ga. 400, is expected this year — but minor work such as repaving could extend into 2024, depending on winter weather conditions, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The project, initially set for completion in 2020, faced delays due to additional bridge replacements, unexpected utility line relocations, labor shortages, and supply chain challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite ongoing inconveniences, the $800 million interchange is anticipated to enhance traffic flow once all construction is finalized. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
