Cobb's Cityhood Movements Opposed By County Delegation Chairman
State Rep. Erick Allen said he wouldn't support the four cityhood movements in Cobb County until further analysis is done.
COBB COUNTY, GA — State Rep. Erick Allen, who chairs the Cobb County Legislative Delegation, said he would not support the cityhood movements for East Cobb, Vinings, Lost Mountain and Mableton until more analysis is done on the proposed cities' impact to Cobb County overall, he told the Marietta Daily Journal.
Allen, a Democrat representing Smyrna in the state House of Representatives and a candidate for lieutenant governor, told the newspaper last week that he doesn't believe any of the proposed cities have considered how they might affect Cobb County government as a whole.
He said the cities have taken on lighter services, but not the more costly ones like police, fire, roads, water and stormwater — leaving those services for the county to cover.

East Cobb is the only one of the four that's proposed including police and fire services, in addition to planning and zoning, and code enforcement, Patch previously reported. Lost Mountain, Vinings and Mableton have included planning and zoning, code enforcement and parks under the proposed cities.
Bills for the proposed cities have already been filed which, if passed, would add the cityhood efforts on referenda for those living within each of the proposed cities' boundaries.
