- A new documentary titled "This World Is Not My Own" features the story of Nellie Mae Rowe, a self-taught African American artist who turned her home in Vinings in the 1970s into a work of art. The documentary film's creators talked about their struggles with featuring the home, called the Playhouse, as it was demolished after the artist's death and was eventually replaced by Hotel Indigo. The documentary will be making its debut this week at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. (Artnet News)
- The City of Smyrna announced that it will be working to verify the type of materials used to line the pipes on either side of the meter at houses of a certain age in the city due to national mandates on lead pipes. The process will begin in Wards 2 and 6 and will involve digging a hole on either side of a house's meter. Residents are encouraged to contact the city with any questions or concerns at bjones@smyrnaGa.gov or (678) 631-5430. (City of Smyrna, GA Government via Facebook)
- Smyrna is making progress toward becoming the second city in Cobb County to install red light cameras at certain intersections. The Smyrna City Council voted this week to install the cameras at two intersections: one on South Cobb Drive and the East-West Connector and the second on the corner of Spring Road and Cumberland Boulevard. The cameras will help to enforce four-way intersection laws and issue fines accordingly which will then be used to pay the camera's operating company. (Yahoo News)
