Cobb Sheriff Increases Police Presence At Area Malls For The Rest Of The Year

COBB COUNTY, GA — Last-minute Christmas shoppers in Cobb County will see more law enforcement personnel at Cobb malls for the rest of the year, according to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office.

From Dec. 13 through Dec. 31, deputies assigned to Uniform Patrol and the Fugitive Apprehension and Support Team (FAST) are conducting routine patrols in the busy shopping areas around Cumberland and Town Center malls.

While the sheriff's office is not aware of any specific threats against the malls, Sheriff Craig Owens wanted to provide extra deputies anyway.

"We know the holiday season can be a stressful time," Owens said in a news release. "This increase in patrol is meant to ease shoppers' minds as they complete their last minute holiday tasks."

The sheriff's office is reminding shoppers to continue practicing safe habits while they're out, especially during the holidays, including:

  • Lock your car doors.
  • Do not leave vehicles running unattended.
  • Remember where you parked.
  • Do not leave shopping bags or boxes in plain sight of your car.

Shoppers are encouraged to call 911 if they see something suspicious or believe they may have witnessed a crime.
