Mental Hospital Gunman in Custody in Smyrna: Police
Shots fired Wednesday afternoon at Ridgeview Institute. More than 150 area law enforcement involved in hunt for suspect.

SMYRNA, GA — A suspect is in custody after shots were fired at the Ridgeview Institute, according to Cobb County Police. The identity of the suspect has not been released.
More than 150 law enforcement from Cobb County, Smyrna, Marietta and the Georgia State Patrol, responded to the call at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday of an active shooter at the mental facility at 3995 South Cobb Drive.
The suspect allegedly fired several shots at employees inside the building. No injures were reported as a result of the shooting, according to Cobb County Police.

The suspect fled the area on foot, leading police to set up a perimeter. He was discovered roughly 30 minutes later near the intersection of Charleston Place and Shamrock Trail in Smyrna.
Karen Briglevich told WSB she was stepping out to get her mail as police were apprehending the suspect.

"The police officer was sitting there with his gun pointed at the lake in front of my house and he said get back inside so of course I did," she told WSB.
Two schools in the area — Griffin Middle School and King Springs Elementary — were reportedly on temporary lockdown.
