New Businesses Come to Market Village
However, the vacancy rate in the development is still higher than the average in Smyrna.
Smyrna’s Market Village vacancy rate is on the decline thanks to some new businesses.
Andrea Hall, the city’s community development coordinator, said that the recent opening of a sports therapy gym called Ozone Fitness, Buckhead Academy and the pending opening of The Corner Taqueria bring Market Village’s retail vacancy rate from 30 percent to 21 percent.
“That’s still slightly higher than the overall Smyrna average for retail, but Market Village is a unique concept in Smyrna,” she said. “We’ve got some other things that the building owners are working on, they just haven’t signed a lease yet.”

Buckhead Academy, a tutoring center for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, recently opened in the space that was formerly home to Pie in the Sky Gift Shop next door to .
The business’s website lists its new location as , but the business license filed with the city is for Market Village.

Buckhead Academy’s owner Kimberly Simpson confirmed that they have opened in Market Village.
“We’re what you call an experiential learning academy,” she said. “What that means is that we’re strictly interactive learning. Our core subjects are math and science that we tailor around our experiential learning program. However we do have a unique reading program that also incorporates hands-on learning.”
Buckhead Academy’s tutors all have bachelor’s degrees and teaching certifications, Simpson said.
Another Market Village vacancy is being filled as well. Renovations continue on the that is now home to The Corner Taqueria. There’s no word yet on when the business will open.
Hall said she and other city officials are please to see new life in Market Village.
“We’re definitely excited about having more services down there,” she said. “And a tutoring establishment is definitely a lot different than what we’ve had down there in the past. We’re hoping it brings in some more families and folks like that. It will work well in tandem with some of the other family things we have down there, the orthodontist and the dance space.”
