- Police are investigating a fire in a homeless encampment that resulted in the death of one homeless man. Around 1:00 a.m. Monday morning, police responded to a fire near Interstate 75 and Earnest Barrett Drive. Police arrived at the scene of a burning tent; after extinguishing the fire, firefighters found a dead body inside. It is currently unclear if this was an act of foul play. The case remains under investigation. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The gas price in Georgia has not changed in the last week from the average price of $3.22 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. The current price of gas is seven more cents than a month ago and 74 cents less than it was a year ago. The fear of recession, fortunately, did not change the gas price like it did oil, with oil running about $70 a barrel. The current price of gas in Cobb County is an average of $3.207, around a cent less than state averages. (Cobb County Courier)
- A big birthday was celebrated Friday as Clara Bridges, or "Mama Bridges" to some, celebrated her 102 birthday in northwest Atlanta. Bridges has lived a full life from serving in the army to going to nursing school and working as a pediatric nurse at Grady hospital — she even had the opportunity to meet a young teen with big dreams, Dr. Martin Luther King. As a special gift for Bridges, she had the honor of meeting Bernice King, King's youngest child, who attended her birthday party thrown by the community and sang her happy birthday. (WSB Atlanta)
