Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:
- The family of a Cobb County teenager, who was fatally shot during a sleepover last month, is now offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Last week, charges were dropped against a teen suspect who was in custody for the shooting death of 15-year-old Charles "CJ" Brown; the Cobb County District Attorney's office refrained from commenting due to the involvement of a juvenile in the case. According to mother Ashley Heard, the family is currently determining the exact amount they will offer for the reward and urges anyone with relevant information to contact Cobb County police. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The Smyrna Fire Department has launched the Future Firefighter Program, aimed at assisting individuals pursuing a career in Fire and EMS. This program offers guidance and preparation for the physical demands of the job, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the daily duties, core values, and leadership principles of the Smyrna Fire Department. The program spans five Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and successful completion will grant participants placement on a preferred hiring list. Those interested in learning more can contact joinsfd@smyrnaga.gov. (City of Smyrna - Government)
- The Cobb County Sheriff's Fraud and Forgery Unit warns the community of criminals employing artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to engage in fraudulent activities. Officials say there have been no reported cases in Cobb County so far, but say it's "only a matter of time." The department continues to educate itself and the community on AI-related scams and encourages residents to screen all their calls. (WSB-TV)
