Local Barber, Father Of 2 Killed During Armed Robbery; Smyrna Man Charged With Murder

A Smyrna man was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of local barber Roennell "Meat" Cherry.

SMYRNA, GA — A Cobb County man is accused of killing a local barber while trying to rob his home earlier this month, according to multiple news outlets.

Police arrested Talmadge Leroy Roberson, 27, of Smyrna, on Thursday and charged him with murder and aggravated assault. Authorities say he shot Roennell Cherry in the torso and leg Feb. 17 during an armed robbery attempt at an Austell home, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Cherry, a barber nicknamed "Meat" and a father of two boys, died from his injuries.

"He was known as the coolest and most down to earth man that cut hair," a GoFundMe page created for Cherry's family said. "We are all heart broken and lost for word[s] that he will no longer be with us physically."

Roberson was booked into the Cobb County jail Thursday, where he's being held without bond. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Roberson was released from prison in July after being convicted of aggravated assault and home invasion.

The GoFundMe was created to help with funeral arrangements for Cherry and help take care of his children, Demani and Kingston. A total of $5,805 out of a $15,000 goal have been raised as of publication.
